1. How to place a prescription order?
Your physician should fax your prescription to AllyScripts using our toll-free fax line: 844-309-7173 or they may call us at
AllyScripts has a designated staff member to receive referrals and prescriber orders.The On-Call pharmacist is available 24 hours a
day 7 days per week for the following;
Urgent and emergent calls
Referrals / prescriptions may be received directly from the patient's physician, or may be received on the order of a physician from the physician’s office staff, a hospital discharge planner or nurse.
2. How to obtain a refill?
AllyScripts will contact you approximately 5-7 days before your refill is due for delivery OR you can call our toll-free telephone number at (844)309-7171 to speak with one of our pharmacy staff members.
3. How to access medications in case of an emergency or disaster?
Call AllyScripts 844-309-7171 or your local pharmacy involved in your regular prescriptions services as soon as possible so we can respond to the situation immediately.
You may also contact:
•The local hospital(s) in the area
•The local EMS office (911 Services)
•Other local or area HME companies
4. How to check on the status of your prescription?
You may call our toll-free telephone number 844-309-7171 during normal business hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central time, Monday through Friday) to speak with a tech or a pharmacist.
5. Information on prescription substitutions?
AllyScripts dispenses prescriptions as written by your physician. AllyScripts follows all Federal, State and Local Laws and Statutes and is governed by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy regarding prescription substitutions.
6. How to transfer a prescription to another pharmacy?
You may request AllyScripts transfer a prescription to the pharmacy of your choice or you may have the pharmacy call AllyScripts directly for the transfer.
7. How to obtain medications not available at the pharmacy?
If for whatever reason AllyScripts is unable to supply your specialty prescription medication, AllyScripts will transfer the prescription to a specialty pharmacy that is able to fill. We will contact you and provide details of the transfer and monitor the process to make sure that you receive the medication in a timely manner.
8. How do you handle medication recalls?
AllyScripts shall maintain and follow policies and procedures for handling recalls of pharmaceuticals due to any voluntary action on the part of the manufacturer, the direction of the Food and Drug Administration, or any other federal, state, or local government agency.
The pharmacist shall on each prescription filled or refilled, record the source of the medication, lot and/or batch number, and the expiration date. This will ensure that the pharmacy can identify each patient who has received or is receiving recalled medications.
In the event of a recalled, discontinued, expired, damaged, contaminated, unacceptable and counterfeit drug product, staff pharmacists, the patient and patient’s physician shall be notified immediately (pharmacist by email and group meeting, physicians and patients by email and telephone notification). The patient will be given instructions as to the proper disposition of the recalled medications per FDA recommendations available at
The pharmacy will remove recalled or unacceptable inventory in the process of being shipped or awaiting pick up and place the inventory in quarantine. This includes prescriptions filled for a recalled or unacceptable drug which are in the process of packaging for shipment or waiting for the common carrier to pick up.
Manufacturer guidelines are followed for each specific case, whether the drug is to be quarantined, returned to the manufacturer, or to a contracted hazardous material disposal service.Proper protocol is always followed to maintain patient safety.
If a drug presently dispensed by AllyScripts is taken off the market, all physicians prescribing the medication to AllyScripts patients will be notified.
All pharmaceuticals or products returned to the pharmacy secondary to a recall or defect shall be disposed of per manufacturer or FDA instructions.
Pursuant to either FDA or manufacturer's recommendations, the Pharmacy Director will isolate stock, use another lot number if safe, or utilize the drug recall procedure.
9. How to dispose of medication?
The FDA recommends consumers and caregivers should remove expired, unwanted, or unused medicines from their home as quickly as possible to help reduce the chance that others may accidentally take or intentionally misuse the unneeded medicine.
Medicine take-back programs are a good way to safely dispose of most types of unneeded medicines. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) periodically hosts National Prescription Drug Take-Back events where collection sites are set up in communities nationwide for safe disposal of prescription drugs. Local law enforcement agencies may also sponsor medicine take-back programs in your community. Likewise, consumers can contact their local waste management authorities to learn about medication disposal options and guidelines for their area.
Another option for consumers and long-term care facilities, like nursing homes, to dispose of unneeded medicines is to transfer unused medicines to collectors registered with the DEA. DEA-authorized collectors safely and securely collect and dispose of pharmaceuticals containing controlled substances and other medicines. In your community, authorized collection sites may be retail pharmacies, hospital or clinic pharmacies, and law enforcement locations. Some authorized collection sites may also offer mail-back programs or collection receptacles, sometimes called “drop-boxes,” to assist consumers in safely disposing of their unused medicines.
If no medicine take-back programs or DEA-authorized collectors are available in your area, and there are no specific disposal instructions on the label you can also follow these simple steps to dispose of most medicines in the household trash:
1. Mix medicines (do not crush tablets or capsules) with an unpalatable substance such as dirt, kitty litter, or used coffee grounds;
2. Place the mixture in a container such as a sealed plastic bag
3. Throw the container in your household trash;
4. Scratch out all personal information on the prescription label of your empty pill bottle or empty medicine packaging to make it unreadable, then dispose of the container.
10. How to handle adverse reactions?
The patient should contact his/her physician immediately and report any adverse reactions. The patient may also contact the pharmacy at 844-309-7171 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
